Mobile-first! It’s the Future of Browsing
As we all know, the popularity of using smartphones to browse the internet has become ever so increasingly important in 2018. It’s a fact that we spend on average 5 hours a day on our mobile phones and smartphones are the most popular way to browse the internet. The question I’m asking is and I’m sure you’ve thought this, why are so many websites so unoptimised for mobile devices?
It seems ridiculous that so many people are using these unoptimised websites and just putting up with it, we as smartphone users deserve better, fortunately Google have come to the rescue, they’ve once again changed their search algorithm to index and favour mobile friendly websites when searching on a smartphone, for example an iPhone, Samsung or even a Google Pixel.
If you’re a website owner without a mobile version of your website, well you’re in good luck as we have a few small tips to launch you in the right direction when changing the mobile version of your website.
One of the most important things to remember is to have a responsive website, as smartphones do not have the same processing power as a PC/Mac, websites should be less bulky and easier to load, this means reducing image/file sizes, having a fast server to link the site together. Having even a 1 second delay will result in 11% fewer page views, 16% decrease in customer satisfaction and even a 7% reduction in conversions.
Another reason why loading times for a website is critical for smartphones is due to them connecting to a mobile network to access the internet, this is not as fast or responsive as home broadband, smartphone users will give up after a couple seconds of waiting as there’s demand for fast websites.
